Hello!

My name is Chad and recently purchased an 06 Stingray 185 LS to join the boating world.  Have had my boat out once on Bago launching in the big hole at the Yaght club.  It was a little rough that day so wondering any tips you might have for me with a smaller boat.  Are there wind speeds/direction that I should stay away from? Times to go and not go, things of that nature. Currently I have just been driving through the park on certain days to see what out or to check the conditions based on the wind.  Seems like it will be a tricky lake for someone like me with a small boat.  Would appreciate any insight you all have.  Thanks!

Welcome aboard!

Bago can be a real witch at times. I used to run from Fondy to Oshvegas in a 15ft trihull so I know how you feel.

Basiclly you want the sustained winds to be under 10mph and from the same side of the lake you are on. West side of the lake west winds. East side, east winds.

The great thing about this lake system is that you can almost always find someplace that you can go to get away from bad conditions. If the main lake is nasty, you can always head up the river.

Another option is to go to the upper lakes in the pool.  Butte des Mortes, Poygan, Winneconne and the Wolf river.  Generally less chop up there on windy days depending on which way the winds are coming from.
